According to a recent report, Microsoft downgraded some of Kinect’s capabilities in order to reduce the financial risks.
Microsoft was worried that they will lose money on each unit they sold, so they took out an internal processor chip in favour of a software solution.
The chip that is talked about is the one that is responsible for the processing of Natal’s bone system, and on top of that, the downgrade meant that Kinect’s resolution was lowered to 320×240.
“Microsoft files lots of patent applications to protect our intellectual property, not all of which are brought to market right away. Kinect that is shipping this holiday will not support sign language.” said the platform holder to Kotaku.
